timinlabriWelcome to TimWellsjazz.com, the home of the Tim Wells Hot Swing Band and other projects of Tim’s. Tim holds a Masters Degree in improvised music and jazz from the University of York where he studied with the great British pianist John Taylor. Brought up listening to a variety of music his interests are varied, ranging from traditional swing music, through to more modern jazz and Hammond organ.

He has performed recently for the Archbishop of Canterbury at Lambeth Palace in London (shown below) as well as at Hogmanay festival in Edinburgh and Brecon Jazz festival. Recently Tim also had the pleasure of playing with the radio 2 DJ and jazz singer Clare Teal.

When playing solo piano, Tim is particularly interested in swing music and a style of piano known as ‘stride’ which originated in Harlem in the 1930s.

His favourite players include Erroll Garner, Art Tatum, Billy Kyle, Wynton Kelly, Oscar Peterson, Louis Armstong, Bill Evans, Chris Dawson, David Newton, Hank Mobley, Scott Hamilton and many more.

Tim is based in Brighton, Sussex and is available to hire for parties, weddings and functions either with the Swing Band, the hammond trio or as a solo pianist.  I hope you enjoy listening to the projects that Tim is involved with on the site.
